In order to Run the heat treat efficiently so we can get the most money out of it I must Maintain low set up times/ keep costs low and in order to Maintain low set up times/ keep costs low I must Keep batch sizes at the current level. But, in order to Run the heat treat efficiently so we can get the most money out of it I must also Decrease lead time/ increase product turn-around and in order to Decrease lead time/ increase product turn-around I must Cut batch sizes in half. I can't both Keep batch sizes at the current level and Cut batch sizes in half.
Relation | Assumption(s) | Injection(s) |
D-D' | I cannot have two different batch sizes in the machine at once | I purchase another heat treat machine |
B-D | Smaller batch sizes will double the amount of set ups that must be done | With less time on each process, no time would be wasted doing more set ups |
C-D' | The time it takes to process the batch will be cut in half | On very large orders to the same person, cutting the batch sizes would double the time it takes for them to get there order |
A-B | If costs increase, that will increase the liklihood of the plant being shut down. | If customers get their order faster, it may lead to more business which would balance out the higher cost |
A-C | Faster turn-around on the heat treat will lead to the ability to process more orders | Not if there are no more orders to process |
